logo  The Department of Pathophysiology of Luhansk State Medical University was organized in 1957 and is located in the premises of the regional clinical hospital. After the completion of the construction of the first building in 1967 on the territory of the medical campus, the department was moved to a new building. Since 1982, the department was located on the third floor of the building № 2 in the building of the State Institution "Lugansk State Medical University". Since 2015, the department is located in Rubizhne, street Builders, 32.


  Mykhailo Mykhailovych Smyk The organizer of the department and its first head was Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Mykhailo Mykhailovych Smyk (1910-2005), who worked in this position until 1974. Prior to that, Mikhail Mikhailovich organized departments of pathophysiology: in 1936 at the Vinnytsia Medical Institute, in 1948 at the Stanislavsky (now Ivano-Frankivsk) Medical Institute. Smik MM He graduated from the Odessa Medical Institute in 1933, after which he studied in graduate school at the Department of Pathophysiology of the Odessa Institute for Advanced Training of Physicians, which he graduated in 1935. During his postgraduate studies he worked at the Institute of Balneology, and then - an assistant at the Department of Biochemistry of the Odessa Medical Institute.

   In 1937 he defended his dissertation on "The influence of the pituitary gland on kidney function", in 1956 - his doctoral dissertation on "On the pathogenesis of disorders of some liver functions and metabolism in tuberculosis." Working in various educational institutions, Professor Smyk MM proved to be an erudite scientist who gave a lecture course at a high scientific and theoretical level, a skilful organizer of experimental, laboratory, scientific and educational work. He was a well-educated man, he opened a graduate school in pathological physiology. Fluent in Italian, German, French and English, maintained scientific contacts with scientists from other countries. M.M. Smyk studied inflammation and treatment of inflammatory processes of joints, spine; spontaneous thrombosis in the portal vein, changes in organ function in tuberculosis, peptone shock,

  He was awarded the Order of the Red Star and three medals. He was twice awarded Diplomas of the Ministry of Health of the USSR. He was a regular participant in republican and All-Union scientific conferences and congresses of pathophysiologists. He has completed five doctoral and seven PhD theses. He is the author of 55 publications, including the monograph "The effect of ultrasound on the body." Prof. M.M. Smyk - the founder and the first chairman of board of the Luhansk regional scientific and methodical society of pathophysiologists.

   According to the decision of the Academic Council of Luhansk State Medical University of November 12, 1995, in honor of the 40th anniversary of Luhansk State Medical University, for great merits in its development, formation and organization of Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Smyk Mikhail Mikhailovich was awarded the high title of "Honorary Professor". , his portrait is placed in the portrait gallery of the university.


Gusach Petro Petrovich
   Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Gusach Petro Petrovich (1924-1997). Employee of the Department of Pathophysiology since 1957. He headed the department from 1974 to 1991, then worked as a professor of the department. He was vice-rector for academic work from 1977 to 1987.

   Gusach PP in 1953 he graduated from the Kharkiv Medical Institute, in 1955 - clinical residency in surgery, in 1956 - graduate school in normal physiology. He worked at the Luhansk Medical Institute since 1956, first as an assistant at the Department of Normal Physiology, then at the Department of Pathological Physiology. In 1957 he defended his dissertation, in 1965 he was approved as an associate professor. Since 1971 - Doctor of Medical Sciences, since 1976 - Professor. The doctoral dissertation was performed on the topic: "Peculiarities of the development of the inflammatory process in the conditions of impaired thyroid function". Gusach PP - author of 132 scientific publications. Under his supervision, four PhD theses were defended. He was awarded medals for participation in the Great Patriotic War, "Excellence in Higher Education of the USSR", Honored Worker of Higher Education of the Ukrainian USSR, Honored Worker of Science and Technology. He organized research in higher school pedagogy, published 31 papers on these issues.


Kazimirko Nila Kazimirovna
   From 1991 to March 2017 the department was headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine Kazimirko Nila Kazimirovna, student of Professor Smyka MM, second graduate student of the department. Doctoral dissertation on the topic: "Features of posthemorrhagic blood recovery in the conditions of previous administration of hydrocortisone". She was awarded the academic title of professor in 1992.

   She worked as the vice-rector of the university for educational work from 1991 to 2000. She was a member of the specialized scientific council on rheumatology and pathological physiology at Donetsk National Medical University. M. Gorky. She headed the specialized Academic Council D 29.600.02 in the specialty of pathological physiology (biological and medical sciences) at the State Institution "Lugansk State Medical University" from 2005 to 2014. In 2006 she became the founder and editor-in-chief of the journal General Pathology and Pathological Physiology.

   On the subject of the department published about 380 works on the peculiarities of protective and adaptive reactions, posthemorrhagic erythropoiesis on the background of adrenal dysfunction, diabetes, pathogenic effects of environmental factors, higher school pedagogy, including 12 monographs and 4 textbooks (co-authored) , 4 methodical manuals with the stamp of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, 3 textbooks for English-speaking students. Has prepared 21 candidates of sciences, 3 doctors of sciences. Member of the Society of Anatomists of Germany.


Glazkov Eduard Oleksandrovych
   Glazkov Eduard Oleksandrovych graduated from Luhansk Medical University in 1995 with a degree in Pediatrics. Internship in "Neonatology" was held at the Central Children's Hospital in Stakhanov in 1995-1997.

   Candidate of Medical Sciences, specialty 14.03.04 - "Pathological Physiology". The dissertation on the topic: "The role of intense physical activity in the occurrence of metabolic and immune disorders and their correction with quercetin" was defended in 2009 in the specialized Academic Council of Luhansk State Medical University of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

   Doctor of Medical Sciences, specialty 14.03.04 - "Pathological Physiology". The dissertation on the topic: "Adaptive reactions of the organism to changes in climatic and geographical conditions of stay of citizens from Central and East Asia" was defended in 2016 in the specialized Academic Council of Lugansk State Medical University of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

   The academic title of associate professor was awarded in 2011.

   From 2009-2014 worked at the Department of Physical Rehabilitation and Valeology and the Department of Life Safety, Occupational Safety and Civil Protection at the State Institution "Lugansk National University named after Taras Shevchenko".

   The main direction of scientific activity is the study of the influence of endogenous and exogenous factors on the body's resistance to pathogenic stimuli. Author of more than 100 scientific publications, 3 monographs, textbooks, 1 utility model patent and one innovation proposal. He heads the union of pathophysiologists of Luhansk region. He is a regular participant in scientific conferences of various levels and congresses of pathophysiologists.
