  The Department of Medical Chemistry was organized on February 2, 1988 as a result of the merger of two departments - General Chemistry and Biological Chemistry.

  The Department of General Chemistry was founded in September 1956. Its organizer was Ph.D., Associate Professor Shatko Polina Petrovna (1903 - 1965), who came from the Dnepropetrovsk Medical Institute and headed until May 1965.

  Komarevtseva IO graduated with honors from Voroshilovgrad State Medical University in 1982. She was assigned to research work. In 1982 she entered the full-time graduate school of Voroshilovgrad State Medical Institute. The Ministry of Health of Ukraine was sent to the dissertation to the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR. She defended her dissertation at the Lumumba University of Friendship of Peoples in 1986.

   In 1985 she organized the first in Ukraine (the third in the USSR) laboratory of radioimmunological and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, which later became the base of the Central Research Laboratory (CNDL) of Luhansk State Medical University (LSMU). In 1988 she began to deal with nuclear-magnetic resonance relaxation of hydrogen protons in tissue water in the only, at that time, laboratory of the Research Institute of Medical Radiology of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences. The method developed by Komarevtseva IO interested in the manufacturer of NMR relaxometers "Bruker", and in 1991 Komarevtseva IO underwent an internship in NMR relaxation in Germany. In the same year, Komarevtseva IO organized the first (and so far the only) in Ukraine laboratory of NMR-relaxometry at Luhansk State Medical University.
