The history of the Department of Drug Technology, Organization and Economics of Pharmacy at the State Institution “Luhansk State Medical University” dates back to 2001. It was when the students of the first intake of the newly established Faculty of Pharmacy began studying special technological and economic disciplines that the specialized department was organized.
At first, the structure was called the Department of Management, Economics, Marketing and Technology of Medicines. Oleksandr Pavlovych Gudzenko, Doctor of Pharmacy, Professor, General Director of the Luhansk Regional Communal Production Enterprise “Pharmacy”, was appointed as the Head of the Department. Young and initiative employees started working as assistants, namely: N.F. Benyukh, N.V. Kucherenko, E.O. Perederiy, O.D. Nemyatykh, O.M. Gondel and V.L. Karpenko.
Thanks to the support of the Municipal Enterprise “Luhansk Regional Pharmacy”, a separate building was built on the territory of the university - the “Pharmacy Studio”, which combined a functioning pharmacy and classrooms of the department. The second floor of the building also housed a computer classroom, a research laboratory, and teachers' offices.
However, the events related to the occupation of Luhansk by illegal armed groups made adjustments to the plans of the entire university, including the Department of Drug Technology, Organization and Economics of Pharmacy. The Ukrainian-controlled university was moved to Rubizhne, Luhansk region, in the fall of 2014.
The Department of Drug Technology, Organization and Economics of Pharmacy received premises in the educational and administrative building of the State Institution “Luhansk State Medical University” at 32 Budivelnykiv Street, Rubizhne.
To reproduce the quality educational process, a cooperation agreement was immediately concluded between the State Institution “Luhansk State Medical University” and the Municipal Enterprise “Luhansk Regional Pharmacy-North”. According to this agreement, the department was able to use the material and technical base of the Central City Pharmacy No. 47 in Rubizhne. Rubizhne to conduct the educational process in specialized disciplines that require the acquisition of professional skills by higher education students. The department started the academic year 2014-2015 at the new location. During this period, the educational documentation of the department was reproduced. Thanks to the assistance of the National University of Pharmacy (Kharkiv), the library fund of the department was created both in paper and electronic formats.
During the 2016-2017 academic year, the department had the name "Department of Drug Technology, Organization and Economy of Pharmacy with Pharmacology". At that time, pharmacology was taught to students of the medical and pharmaceutical faculties. In addition, the department taught the disciplines: "Clinical pharmacology" (for students of the medical faculty) and "Clinical pharmacy" (for students of the pharmaceutical faculty).
Since 2018, the department has been called the "Department of Drug Technologies, Organization and Economics of Pharmacy". The department has created educational components of a technological, organizational and economic nature for full-time and part-time students of the pharmaceutical faculty of the Luhansk State Medical University.

The department also conducts internships for pharmacy specialists, cycles of professional development of pharmacy specialists are carried out (internship cycle in the specialty "Organization and Management of Pharmacy", pre-certification cycle in the specialty "Organization and Management of Pharmacy", internship cycle in the specialty "General Pharmacy", pre-certification cycle in the specialty "General Pharmacy").
The department continues to train its own scientific personnel. In 2020, the first candidate's thesis at the new location of the department was defended by assistant O. E. Oksenyuk (supervisor - Prof. Gudzenko O. P.).
Today, higher education institutions face new challenges - accreditation of educational programs at other and third educational levels.
In 2021, OP 226 "Pharmacy, industrial pharmacy" successfully passed accreditation at another master's level (the guarantor of the educational program is Professor Gudzenko O.P.)
From the moment the department was founded (2001) until March 2015, the head of the department of medicine technology, organization and economics of pharmacy was the Honored Worker of Health Protection of Ukraine, Ph.D. n., Professor Hudzenko Oleksandr Pavlovich.
From April 2015 to May 2021, the acting head of the department was Dr. Pharm. n., associate professor Nataliya Vasylivna Kucherenko.

In June 2021, Associate Professor N. V. Kucherenko was elected to the position of Head of the Department of Physician Technologies, Organization and Pharmacy Economics.
After the relocation of the university to Rivne, the Department of Pharmacy was opened by merging 3 specialized departments of the Faculty of Pharmacy: the Department of Drug Technologies, Organization and Economy of Pharmacy, the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmacognosy, and the Department of Industrial Pharmacy.
Today, the Department of Pharmacy is headed by Associate Professor V.G. Tkachenko. continues active training of highly qualified personnel of the pharmaceutical sector.
