Under the scientific supervision of G.V. Bezpoludina 8 PhD theses were defended. The department has trained 6 associate professors and 3 senior lecturers. Since the 90s of the last century, the department has been developing a strategy for the development of the health care system of the population of Luhansk region more fruitfully and dynamically.

The main directions of the department's work were the development of a general concept of preventive medicine in a market economy and bioethical problems of modern medicine. A number of scientific articles have been published on these topics in leading specialized publications of Ukraine. One of the directions of the department's scientific activity is to conduct comprehensive medical and social research on the relationship between lifestyle and health of the population of an industrial region.

Together with the Department of Infectious Diseases, one of the fragments of the work "System of immunological monitoring and immunocorrection in the program of health improvement and rehabilitation and preventive measures for workers of a large industrial region of Donbass" (1989) was performed, the materials of which were presented in the pavilion "Health Care" of the All-Union VDNKh). The result of a comprehensive study of the quality of life and health of the population of the industrial region was the doctoral dissertations of G.V. Bespoludina and V.O. Zyuzin, and the monograph by O.V. Zhylya.

Since 2003, the staff of the department has been conducting a long-term research "Health status and organization of medical care for the population of a large industrial region as one of the most important problems of ensuring regional security".

Since 1978, the department has been the scientific curator of the Luhansk Regional Scientific Society of Social Physicians and Healthcare Organizers.

In 2015, the university moved to the city of Rubizhne.   The staff of the department creates and develops the existing educational, methodological and material and technical base of the department to carry out high-level activities in pedagogical, clinical and scientific (scientific and practical) areas.

In August 2017, the Department of Family, Social and Military Medicine and the Department of Social Medicine, Management Organization and Health Economics were reorganized to form the Department of Family, Social and Military Medicine and Health Organization. The university began training masters of medicine, with a new discipline in the curriculum - "training of reserve officers" - so it became necessary to assign it to a specialized department. Therefore, there was a need to create a corresponding department.

Another reason for the formation of the department in this organizational and educational format was a significant deterioration in the health of the Head of the Department of Social Medicine, Organization of Management and Health Economics, Candidate of Medicine, Associate Professor Anatolii Vysotskyi.

The newly merged department includes the following members: Associate Professor Anatolii Vysotskyi, PhD in Medicine, Associate Professor, Serhii Naprasnikov, PhD in Medicine, Associate Professor, assistants Oleksandr Bevz, Assistant Halyna Derevianko, 0.5-time assistant Yurii Cherepakha, and Senior Laboratory Assistant Olena Usmanova. Rodionoa Alla Oleksandrivna and Fesenko Inna Valentynivna worked at the department on an hourly basis. The location of the department has changed. In the educational building at 4 Volodymyrska Street, the department received 4 rooms with a total area of 86.1 m2, the largest of which were equipped with classrooms. The department received technical teaching aids and a multimedia projector. The creation of the educational material and technical base began. The teaching load plan for the 2017-2018 academic year was 5314 teaching hours, almost 50% of which were spent on teaching students, and the rest on interns and cadets of the Pre-Service Education Department.

The department was responsible for teaching the history of medicine, social medicine, health care organization, health care economics, family medicine, first aid in extreme conditions, basics of organization of medical support for troops and civil defense, civil defense for students and general practice - family medicine, health care management and dermatovenereology for interns and cadets of the PGCE in the form of secondary specialization, pre-certification cycles, thematic improvements. At this time, we had to start preparing work programs and other methodological documents for master's training in almost all disciplines.

The new 2019-2020 academic year began with reorganization measures. Therefore, the department was divided into two - the Department of Family, Palliative and Military Medicine and the Department of Social Medicine, Health Management and Polyclinic Work, headed by Ph.D, Associate Professor Serhii Naprasnikov. In March, Yegor Maslov, an experienced health care organizer, was hired as an assistant.
