“Support to the restoration and development of Luhansk State Medical University”

On September 15, 2021 with the support of Acting Rector, First Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work, Professor Serhii Smirnov, a working meeting with representatives of the European Union took place. The meeting was attended by: Martin Schroeder, Acting Head of the Cooperation Office at the EU Delegation to Ukraine; Nazarii Atamanchuk, Strategic Planning Specialist of the Peace Building and Reconstruction Programme; Stanislav Topolnytskyi, Head of the Program “Support of the EU for Eastern Ukraine”.

 State Establishment “Luhansk State Medical University” was represented by: Acting Rector, First Vice-Rector for Research and Teaching, Professor Serhii SmirnovProject Coordinator, Vice-Rector for Research, Professor Iryna Komarevtseva, and members of the working group.

  The aim of the project is to promote social, economic and intellectual recovery of Eastern Ukraine; to increase the quality of higher medical education and the educational base of the university. This goal will be achieved by improving the infrastructure and teaching aids, developing academic curricula, introducing innovative technologies into the educational process and restoring contacts with universities in other countries for joint research and academic exchange.

  The target groups of the project are undergraduates and university professors, and medical workers of Luhansk region.

Expected results of this project are:

 - improvement of infrastructure and facilities for inpatient training and effective distance learning;

 - improving the conditions for the effective work of the administrative and teaching staff, including through the development of curricula, strengthening cooperation and relations with society;

 - development and improvement of the higher education support service.

EU support comes in the form of budget support, grants, cross-border cooperation and credit, as well as education and community support programmes. Currently, more than 250 different EU projects are being implemented in Ukraine.
