History of the Department: With Respect to the Past...
The Department of Foreign Languages began its work on September 1, 1956, the day the Luhansk Medical Institute of the Ministry of Health of the Ukrainian SSR was officially opened in Luhansk Oblast. The founder of the department, the person who was at the origin of the new structural unit, was a graduate of M. Gorky Kharkiv State University, senior lecturer K.V. Chaplygina.
During the years of her activity (1956-1980), K.V. Chaplygina managed to gather around her a highly professional team, completely devoted to her work. The department taught modern foreign languages (English, French, German), as well as Latin and the basics of medical terminology at a high scientific and methodological level. The Department of Foreign Languages with Latin and Medical Terminology has always been a center of educational work with students. Teachers of the department have always paid much attention to extracurricular activities with students, creating conditions for the comprehensive development of students.
It is impossible to ignore the significant contribution to the development of the department of its other leaders: Senior Lecturer Korkyshko A.A. (1980-1985), Candidate of Philology, Associate Professor Khomyak N.V. (1985-1994), Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Porokh D.A. (2012-2014):
Throughout the entire period of its activity, the Department of Foreign Languages with Latin and Medical Terminology has been actively introducing the latest teaching methods, working on the creation and updating of the teaching and methodological base, intensifying and modernizing the educational process.
In the 70s and 80s, the department provided language training for more than 300 medical specialists to work in foreign countries.
Since 2003, one of the most productive areas of the department's work has been the organization of English language learning by the university's teaching staff, which has made a significant contribution to the development of the university as a whole.
In 2009, a significant upgrade of the department's material and technical base (a multimedia classroom with 11 computers and a multimedia whiteboard) made it possible to start a new stage in the process of language training using modern teaching aids.
Recent history: with faith in the future!
In October 2014, the Department of Foreign Languages with Latin and Medical Terminology was evacuated to the city of Kreminna, Luhansk Oblast, to the Ozernyi Sanatorium, where it merged with the Department of Ukrainian and Russian Languages.
Since February 2015, the new structural unit, the Department of Foreign Languages with Latin and Ukrainian, has been headed by Associate Professor Tetyana Karlova, PhD in Philology.
In the difficult conditions of evacuation, the painstaking work of restoring documentation, creating new educational content and organizing classroom classes with students began.
The students, in turn, showed remarkable strength of spirit, loyalty to their beliefs and willingness to gain knowledge under any circumstances with faith in the future. They supported the teachers' desire to work on the creation of a new university, and not only took up their studies using Internet resources and e-technologies, but also unleashed their creative potential by helping to restore the department's teaching and methodological base.
Despite the lack of staff and the absence of the usual working conditions, the department's staff managed to resume the full educational process, develop the necessary content for teaching and learning materials, and successfully complete the 2014-2015 academic year.
In August 2015, the Department of Foreign Languages with Latin and Ukrainian was transferred to the city of Rubizhne and located at the new address: 4, Volodymyrska Street.

The Department of Language Training and Social Sciences and Humanities preserves the traditions of linguistic training based on the understanding of the unique identity of Ukrainian and every foreign language, on the awareness of the fundamental nature of classical languages and the undoubted importance of mastering medical Latin, on the overwhelming desire for a thorough knowledge of the Ukrainian literary language in everyday professional and official documentary spheres.
Modern requirements for the training of a qualified specialist primarily require him/her to be an active participant in all globalization processes, i.e. to be a full-fledged participant in intercultural communication and to have the necessary communication skills in the areas of professional and situational communication in oral and written forms, skills of practical knowledge of native and foreign languages in various types of speech activities in the scope of topics determined by professional needs and to be able to master the latest professional information on foreign languages. All of this increases the demand for qualified graduates (specialists) who are fluent in both their native and foreign languages.
Recognizing the demand of modern society for qualified personnel who possess a certain set of Soft Skills, the staff of the department is constantly working on the development of selective educational components aimed at meeting these needs.
In the same perspective, the department's lecturers pay considerable attention to the organization of educational work (including patriotic, moral and legal, artistic and aesthetic, professional education, etc. )
All academic staff of the department are also active in research, participate in various scientific events, supervise the research work of higher education students, etc.
