In January 1958, the Department of Hygiene was set up in the right wing of the first floor of the medical school building, which is still located on the territory of the Luhansk Regional Children's Hospital. The department was headed by Gan Georgy Stanislavovich - Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor.
To work in Luhansk, Professor Gan GS was invited by the rector of Luhansk Medical Institute, Professor EI Palchevsky. In addition, Professor Gan GS was the founder of the Department of Hygiene, he became the first head of the student scientific society of Lugansk Medical Institute.
After the death of Professor GS Since 1965, Mykola Petrovich Pashchenko, an assistant who has held this position for three years, has been appointed acting head of the department.
At the end of 1967, Halyna Vasylivna Kolchyna, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor, was elected Head of the Department. She held this position for 10 years (1967-1978).
From 1987 to 1989 the head of the department was Doctor of Medical Sciences Bulgakov VV, and from 1989 to 1991 the duties of the head of the department were performed by the candidate of medical sciences associate professor Akulinin Vladimir Ivanovich.
From 1991 to 2009 the head of the Department of Hygiene and Ecology was Doctor of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Vitryshchak Valentyn Yakovlevich.
On December 2, 2009 Svitlana Vitryshchak, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor, was elected Head of the Department of Hygiene and Ecology.
Modern Department of Microbiology, Hygiene and Ecology
According to the order of the Rector of the State Institution "Lugansk State Medical University" of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, Honored Doctor of Ukraine, Professor IV Ioffe (Order №30 of March 17, 2016 "On reorganization of the departmental structure of Luhansk State Medical University"), the Department of Biology, Histology and Embryology, Microbiology, Hygiene and Ecology was divided into two independent departments: Department of Biology, Histology and Embryology, Pathological Morphology and Forensic Medicine with Medical Legislation (Head - Associate Professor OP Sysoenko) and the Department of Microbiology, Hygiene and Ecology (Head - Professor, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine IS Gaidash).
As a structural unit of the university, the Department of Microbiology, Hygiene and Ecology began to operate on 01.04.2016.
According to the order of the Rector of the State Institution "Lugansk State Medical University" of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, Honored Doctor of Ukraine, Professor IV Ioffe (Order №66 of 29.08.2019 "On reorganization of the departmental structure of the State Institution" Luhansk State Medical University "), the Department of Microbiology, Hygiene and Ecology was divided into two independent departments: the Department of Hygiene and Ecology (Acting Head - Candidate of Medical Sciences , Associate Professor IA Gaidash) and the Department of Microbiology, Virology and Immunology (Head - Professor, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine IS Gaidash).
